My whole family merely love it!! Instead of using jar of dried beefiness I just use 8oz. thin slices of beef lunchmeat "Budding" and it a lot cheaper!! Not salty at all and you don't even have to rinse!! You must try it and believe me, you won't be disappointed!!!!

But like moms, minus the pepper and her beef came out of a pocketbook. TIP: If you find this dish too salty, soak the beefiness in cold water for about 10 minutes, and bleed. Endeavour a piece, if its all the same as well salty, soak in fresh water for 10 more minutes.

Condolement Nutrient! Once I got the roux down (it took two tries), it was fantastic. I added the ceyenne pepper, seasoned salt and croaky blackness pepper. We used the Budding Luncheon Meat. Served it on toasted potato bread buns. I bet information technology would be keen on biscuts! The boys scarfed them downward faster than I could serve them. Goes downward well with a BIG glass of cold MILK!

It'south funny that the recipe says that SOS stands for "Aforementioned Ole Stuff". That's the nice version but not the original. Information technology's really "S*** On a Shingle" and the get-go word isn't "Stuff". That's what the armed services has been calling it since mode earlier my time. My mom just chosen it "Creamed beefiness" but even she knew what it was really called. She was just as well polite to use the real name. ;~} My mom used to make this with browned hamburger from time to time. Now I'thou the one who does all of the cooking for my married woman and two kids and I seem to be the merely i who loves it. I use browned hamburger and a piffling minced onion and only employ the fat from the hamburger to cook the onion and brand the roux. Just sprinkle the flour over the cooked hamburger and onion and cook a bit. Then whisk in the milk. I add lots of blackness pepper and sometimes a splash of worcestershire sauce. Information technology'south good over toast but even better over buttermilk biscuits. It's basically the same recipe as sausage gravy but with beef instead. Serious comfort nutrient for me but it's also seriously low brow cuisine. Add together a little chopped parsley if you lot want to pretend information technology's fancy. I was a chef in some pretty squeamish restaurants for years but I notwithstanding love the back woods, low forehead, peasant food similar this. Makes me want to whip upwardly a batch right now!

If this recipe is besides salty for you lot, just boil the chipped beefiness in a little water for a few minutes, then drain off the h2o, which will accept some the salt abroad with information technology.
11/eleven/2007
I was surprised at how like shooting fish in a barrel this recipe was. At showtime i was concerned that there was too much beef for the recipe merely it turned out perfect! It is rare to discover a creamed chipped beef recipe that is thick - this is it! i would like a picayune more than flavour but i dont know what else to add. I love the cayenne only i feel like at that place could be another spice that i am not thinking of. Anyway it was great and i would definitely recommend this recipe merely as it is!
12/03/2006
I figured out that I accept to almost double the sauce recipe. I still only use one jar of dried beef, but with more sauce, it's not equally salty. Though it is definitely something that yous can brand chop-chop for everyone to consume. Nosotros make all the fourth dimension.
04/17/2007
This recipe is G-R-E-A-T!!! If yours turned out too salty, you probably used the jarred dried beef and should have RINSED it get-go. We used fresh dried beef from our local locker. Even my EXTREMELY picky 13 year onetime daughter and 5 twelvemonth old son LOVE this stuff...and ask for information technology on a regular basis!
07/31/2002
I used as someone else had suggested deli meat(Italian beef from Cub Foods)and it was awesome...We served over hash brownish patties(for those that are not big staff of life eaters)...Next time I'll need to double the recipe...it was gone in 1 sitting.
05/23/2003
My husband loved information technology, my 12 yr old son alleged it his "favorite meal", and we all wished I'd made more. The funny thing is-subsequently reading the reviews, I boiled the jarred dried beef a minute, and then rinsed it off...and then we all had to Add salt (and pepper) to our portion...Go Figure!
02/17/2008
Fantastic, my married man loved it. Just what I was looking for. I mixed nearly 2/3 of the milk and the residual was cream. Also a great base to add extra's to taste
04/15/2011
You will accept more flavor if you tear up the beef into big bite size pieces, saute in the butter for a chip and and then add the flour and milk.
04/14/2011
add Nutmeg to taste...i always practice that...it adds flavor and you dont even know its there
02/15/2009
I have been making Chipped Beef for years and I learned from watching my mother. I don't use a written recipe just I use the dried beef in the jar. I cut the beef into small pieces and saute it in the butter a few minutes and so that the beef flavor escapes into the butter and then I add the flour and milk. You can also add together a small amount of beefiness bullion granules. This recipe is fifty-fifty ameliorate if you make it the 24-hour interval earlier you plan to consume it! Great comfort food!
11/07/2011
My mom ever fabricated this when I was a niggling girl and I've fabricated it for my family for years. I commencement out with parkay margarine (it has more flavor than butter). I cook that and and then stir in my beef. My favorite is to get it from a deli but that is usually not possible then buddig beefiness in the packages is the adjacent all-time thing. I mix that with the parkay until lightly brown. I pour the milk into my tupperware gravy maker and add the flour and shake. I pour this mixture over peak of the beef and butter and melt until heated and slightly thick. It is so much easier than trying to mix the flour and butter.
04/14/2011
Try scooping out a baked irish potato, mixing the potato with the chipped beef mixture (sans cayenne pepper for me). Then fill the potato beat, put grated cheddar cheese on top and warm in oven until cheese melts.
04/14/2011
This is a good recipe which I used except for the cayenne-I used black pepper instead. But over the years I tweaked it. Melt the butter in the pan, and so put shredded dried beefiness in the butter. Let it sizzle on medium heat for 3-4 minutes, stirring often. It will develop a improve flavor by doing that - and give it more of a chew factor. And then add together the flour, stir until 'roux' develops, add together the milk and (just) pepper (no salt necessary. simmer till thickened and bubbly. You tin can too throw in a small can of drained baby peas (or frozen) - like a half cup; and if y'all like mushrooms, toss some (canned, drained) of those in too. I personally like information technology over biscuits instead of toast.
04/15/2011
Just seeing this listed, brought back many memories of my mom, opening up that tiny jar of either Hormel or Armour Chipped Beef. A dish that she prepared several times a year. I as well would rinse off the excess table salt, tastes have changed and so has the information nigh too much sodium; back when I was a little boy, there was non that much processed food effectually and the amount of table salt that was used to cure this chipped beefiness wasn't much of an result--however today, that is not the instance. A great, American, comfort food item and like some of the other respondents, I was in the military and this was called past a name that doth not be listed here.
04/15/2011
S**T on a Shingle. Dad hates it as he had information technology every 24-hour interval in the service. Mom made information technology for usa. Originally it was canned or bagged chipped meat/beef, milk gravy and toasted white breadstuff. No curry or cayenne at all. Only salt and blackness pepper. And BTW, milk gravy IS fabricated with a roux, which is just a fancy French way of telling you to cook off the butter/flour mixture to get total flavor before adding the milk. Oh and FORGET THE MERLOT! Endeavor a cold dark beer, that will stand up to the salt in the meat. Also actually adept over egg noodles.
07/09/2012
OK - if the beef isn't swimming in the cream sauce, you've washed it wrong. If the toast isn't completely covered in sauce, you lot've done information technology incorrect. If you can consume it with your fingers, you've done it incorrect. If you only put it on toast, you are missing out. Endeavour it over your hash browns, or scrambled eggs, or both.
04/22/2008
This was so simple and so skillful. I used the Budding sliced beef and it was not salty at all. My husband liked it alot. I made to much then we were going to have leftovers the adjacent day for lunch - BIG mistake because this does not reheat well at all, The sauce gets lumpy. Very good and simple recipe / Thank you for sharing !!
04/14/2011
To raise this dish to a higher level, sweat a couple of TBSP finely chopped shallots in the butter before adding the flour for the roux. Brand using half and half and plenty of freshly ground black pepper. Serve over toasted English language muffins. I e'er soak my beef in some cold water before chopping and adding to the white sauce.
ten/12/2008
Well, I started reading the reviews and plant that most of them were the same. This is what we used to accept in the Air Force and chosen it SOS but it didn't represent "Same old Stuff". It stood for "South*** on a Shingle" and most of us asked for it by that name. Pepper wasn't in the classic recipe and if you want to proceed information technology archetype you lot cannot add whatsoever of the other "stuff" either. I have always used the Buddig packs. If you want to try something improve attempt using the Buddig packs of ham - substituting it for the beefiness. I call information technology "Sham on a Shingle" and information technology is the simply way that I make it now.
04/16/2011
Spend a little extra and buy yourself Armour Dried Beefiness. It makes this a corking Chipped Beef Gravy. Chipped Beefiness gravey on toast any 24-hour interval of the week for this bunch. The cayenne pepper is a squeamish touch as well. I chop-chop run warm water over the dried beefiness to remove some of the common salt. I attempt never to add together salt as it seems to break downwardly the essence of this delicious gravy.
02/21/2008
I grew up adding the beef equally soon equally the white sauce was started! Maybe thats why it never tasted salty to me or anyone else who has ate it since its soaked in the "gravy" for a little while. I also add lots of shredded cheese and make the sauce cheesy. My family absolutely loves this. Cheap and like shooting fish in a barrel repast.
04/21/2011
Unlike other "reviewers," I prepared the recipe exactly as written. I used the stale beefiness called for, non hamburger or Walmart beef. Despite the fact that the beef label but suggested, rather than specifying, rinsing the beefiness, I did not practise and so considering the recipe never mentioned rinsing. The event was inedible because of the saltiness. If I try this again I will definitely rinse next time. Lisa, if the beef is to be rinsed, say so in the recipe. Oh, and S.O.Southward. definitely does not represent "same old stuff."
04/xiv/2011
I use 2 packages of Buddig sliced beef and add together a nuance or 2 of Worcestershire sauce to the cream sauce instead of cayenne.
04/xiv/2011
If you would like more of the dried beefiness flavor, saute the dried beef with the butter to release its oils 'before' adding the flour. Makes an incredible difference and changes this iv star into a 5 star recipe.
04/14/2011
This is only similar my Nanny used to make. The simply thing I did different is we eat ours over potatoes. Only boil the potatoes, mash them on your plate. Add together some butter and salt and pepper and put the chipped beef over it. That is always how nosotros ate it growing up. Oh, and I leave the skin on my white potato but the kids like it without! Thank you for this reveiw. I oasis't had this in ages. Bring back great childhood memories with my Nanny (grandma).
04/14/2011
I commonly use the packaged beef as well, but I usually saute it in the butter for a few minutes so add the flour to the pan and stir until the butter is absorbed. Add the milk and stir until thickened. It seems to requite the white sauce a little more flavour.
01/17/2009
This is one of my about favorite comfort foods. I made information technology for my kids this morning. I kid loved it, the other wouldn't touch it. I used the sliced beef in the packages like my mom did when nosotros were little and I added in six crumbled hard-boiled eggs. Truly comfort food at information technology'south best. It's good over biscuits simply for true trashy gustatory modality, best over cheap toasted, buttered white breadstuff.
11/08/2008
Very tasty. One word of caution - don't exist tempted to add salt to the white sauce because the chipped beef is very salty.
04/14/2011
Mmm, we love this 1 now, and I grew up on information technology as well. Even better is flossy egg on toast, make the aforementioned white sauce but throw in chopped hard boiled eggs instead of the chipped beefiness. My 4 year old loves it! Or a tin can of peas for creamed peas on toast. Whatever of these options are perfect for comfort nutrient!
08/12/2011
I of my favorite comfort foods for breakfast. I add about a tsp of garlic powder and onion powder and some white pepper! I also become chipped stale beef from the deli! I sometimes serve this over homefries as well!
03/27/2002
Followed recipe to the T and it was the saltiest meal I accept ever eaten. Hook me up to the water hose. Liked the consistency of the roux, but once dried beef hit information technology...........it was all over. I'm going to endeavour it with vegetables and craven or tuna; and possibly hamburger.
05/11/2011
Just like Mom's! Both my young boys ate this up. Quite a feat since my youngest (2) doesn't like meat.
05/04/2012
We grew up on this being a Navy family. Of course, SOS stood for something else. :) This is wonderful comfort food. It's super over dwelling made biscuits also.
04/14/2011
While the recipe is splendid, I quite oftentimes make it using very lean ground beef. Brownish the beef in a small pot, add the flour to the beef, stir, then add the milk to the mixture. It volition thicken quite fast and eliminates the job of making a roux. I so add a touch on of wostershire sauce and some onion pulverization, garlic powder and salt/pepper to taste.
11/11/2009
I liked this. I added a little onion pulverization and a piddling worcestershire sauce. Served it on toasted english muffins. Very good. Thank you.
04/fourteen/2011
One of my favorite comfort foods from my childhood. Made more special beacuse just my begetter and I liked it. We made it with Budding packaged meat when everyone else had something better to do. When I go far now I wish I could share it with him.
03/06/2010
very proficient, merely not enough gravy for that corporeality of beef. i used a 4.5oz jar of sliced dried beefiness and doubled everything else to make information technology perfect!
05/xx/2010
This is a good starting point! My mom's all-time friend makes this all of the time and I have fond memories of it growing upwardly:) She adds a pocket-size chopped onion to the butter while making the roux. Too Velveeta (to your liking) cubes to the white sauce and a piddling sherry or white vino tops information technology off! She also always served this over the frozen puff pastry puffs (not the canvass). Great served with peas! I Beloved this for dinner, such a wonderful comfort repast for me:) Thanks for sharing!
01/07/2010
This is your basic, former fashioned recipe for SOS. And you know what? Information technology'due south still easy, and it's yet pretty well received. My not-meat-loving kids really like information technology, and it is sooooo fast to make.
01/11/2013
My husband has been talking nigh the creamy chipped beef his mom served him when his was a kid so I decided to make it for him. She is no longer with us so I couldn't ask her for her recipe and I came beyond this i and thought I'd give information technology a try. My husband loved it with the exception that he, like many others, thought it was as well salty so next time I will rinse the meat. Changes I made: I added onion with the melted butter and I added the meat to the onions before the flour. I used 2 cups of milk instead of 1.v cups and I add a sprinkle of nutmeg. My married man said it was perfect except for the table salt.
09/23/2010
I made this for my husband, after he had been begging for me to find a recipe for SOS. I rinsed the dried beefiness from the jar in warm water, but husband said it was still very, very salty, and for him to complain nigh saltiness is rare! He said the SOS the Navy served was much better! The sauce looked good, but next time I would use corned beef or something else as well the jar of dried beef.
04/14/2011
We have eaten this every Easter Sun, for the by 50 years. Here's our family unit'southward twist. Kickoff we make a roux with butter, onions, Wondra flour & whole milk. A overnice rich white sauce. The chipped beef is sliced & then must be soaked in warm water to become the saltiness out. The hard boiled colored easter eggs are peeled and chopped & go into the white sauce when it's finished. Serve over toast. Some pastel colour comes out from the dye on to the white of the egg & it's very eastery!
04/sixteen/2011
I grew upward eating this for breakfast, made exactly like this recipe. Sometimes I want it for supper and I will serve information technology over biscuits and add frozen dark-green peas to the creamed beef. YUMMY!
08/06/2012
Just like my Mom used to brand, and then flossy and good.
05/03/2011
Good, solid recipe - brought dorsum memories of one of dad'due south specialties when I was a kid. I found the salt level fine without rinsing the stale beef, just I did brand a footling extra on the white sauce and then that may take helped. Added some croaky black pepper, served over rice - YUMMM!
04/14/2011
This also is xlent if y'all use Pork Breakfast Sausage. Fry information technology, bleed it & crumble it into the sauce.
04/14/2011
Almost exactly how I have made it for many years. Anyone from military machine families Know this term came from them and was simple but like this recipe is. By the manner, I did make this exactly and information technology was good. I unremarkably fried my chipped beefiness in the butter get-go for more season. Skilful over biscuits too. Toast is the bomb though. In my opinion.
12/05/2007
Yup, this is my grandmother's and my mother's recipe before her, although, we don't use an 8 oz jar of beefiness. For this much sauce, a two.five oz jar is more than sufficient for u.s.a., and helps keep information technology less salty overall. For the poster who was wondering was additional spice could be added ... the secret is always nutmeg. A SMIDGE only, not more than that, lends a nutty spice to this dish, much like information technology does to Alfredo sauce. I made this this evening and served it over toast cubes. We've likewise fabricated this and served it over toasted dried rolls. it'due south besides quite good over crushed breadsticks.
04/15/2011
Awesome - have fabricated this for years and as well utilise the Buddig brand - we similar the corned beef. Add a dash of nutmeg for an extra bit of seasoning. SO GOOD
01/01/2011
I just fabricated this for New Twelvemonth's Day brunch. I tripled the recipe and added 1/two teaspoon garlic powder and 1/2 teaspoon dried mustard. That is how my mom used to brand it when I was a child. It was one of the showtime entries to go! Uncomplicated and yummy. I wish I could observe dried beefiness without nitrates.
10/25/2010
My mom has been making this since I was a kid, she had learned it from her mom who learned how how to go far in the Regular army ... I needed some condolement nutrient today and couldn't phone call my mom up since she'southward on vacation and and then I turned hither. I'grand then glad I found this, information technology was exactly how I remembered it from my childhood. My mom always used the packets of sliced beefiness from the deli and it ever comes out neat! Thanks for sharing! This was perfect for such a dreary mean solar day and during midterms!
eleven/09/2007
This brings dorsum childhood memories. I didn't care for creamed chipped beef every bit a child, merely I like information technology ameliorate as an adult.
03/10/2008
I remember my mom making this on occasion growing upwards. I did rinse the chipped beef to try and reduce some of the saltiness. I also used kitchen shears to cut downward the time information technology takes to chop the beef. This was skilful but not nearly as skillful as I remembered it. Since the SODIUM is OUT OF THIS World I probably won't make it again for some other 20 years! Personally, the USMC SOS recipe was much better tasting that was made with ground beef.
08/05/2008
Delish! A quick and easy recipe that my whole family enjoyed. I could not find the stale beef in a jar, so I used the carl budig sparse sliced pastrami lunch meat. I cut information technology into strips and heated in a fry pan before adding it to the white sauce. Served over thick toasted slices of challah staff of life. So proficient, I volition accept to double the recipe adjacent time!!
01/07/2008
Recently, I found myself peckish this recipe although I hadn't eaten it since my early childhood. My family of 6 wasn't exactly poor simply we had to make simple meals stretch far and then the 'chipped beef' was State-O-Frost lunchmeat, the toast was English language muffins, and seasoning was salt and pepper. I substituted those same ingredients once again and this recipe was still FANTASTIC! Tasted exactly how I remembered! Savoring it once again tonight took me dorsum over xxx yrs., when us four kids were madly lapping it upward and fighting for seconds (and thirds)! THANK YOU for the yummy recipe and wonderful walk down retentivity lane.
10/20/2011
The men in the family dear this simply I use 4 TB butter, 4 TB flour and two cups of milk and ii pkg corned beef. I oestrus the 2 cups of milk in microwave for a couple minutes and add together milk all at once to the roux then I don't have to spend forever stirring information technology.
09/02/2008
This is a great recipe. i did double information technology though and used 2 cups of heavy cream and 1 loving cup of milk. Yummmmmmmmy!!!!
10/21/2000
one of my familys favorites when I say "ok tonights gonna be a quick one...what exercise you lot want?" : )
ten/03/2000
This recipe tastes just like the commercial kind. Very tasty. Instead of beef in a jar, I used wafer sliced beef lunch meat..information technology worked bang-up!
04/14/2011
I love this meal. I add chopped difficult boiled eggs and peas and chopped onion. My boyfriend loves it and I make plenty and so nosotros have leftovers.
04/14/2011
As my mom did, I add 2 coursely chopped, hard-cooked eggs. I also add some frozen peas to make a 'total meal' out of information technology, and I serve it over state buttermilk biscuits. And don't add together ANY common salt to this! And to those having trouble making white sauce, you can mix the milk & flour together commencement (I use cold milk, or half & half) in a measuring cup and add to melted butter all at once.
01/30/2011
DH requested I brand this. I have to acknowledge I really did non desire to but glad I did.I tasted a bite off of DH's plate, it isn't bad and really easy to brand. Only draw dorsum is the sodium content. DH ate the whole matter so that was half-dozen,564mg of sodium. I would accident upward like a balloon. If yous don't accept a sodium trouble I would suggest trying this, yous may like it.
02/fourteen/2011
Only like mom used to make. Except better.
10/28/2013
Great recipe simply my family establish that 8 oz of stale beef to be overwhelming. I used i (1) 2.25 oz jar of Armour dried beef and ground mixed peppercorns in the adjacent try. Information technology was a success!! I too took me back to my days in the Marine Corps!!
02/05/2011
excellant resturant quality This volition be my become to recipe from now on. definatly soak ur chiiped beef if u don't want it salty
04/14/2011
This is just like my Mom's only where;southward the peas and boiled eggs? Reminds me of my childhood.
03/18/2012
Upon a review and suggestion I used lunch meat and I would take to say use the stale beef it would had been much better. The cream sauce seemed to be missing that flavor that comes with it and that may had been due to using the lunch meat instead of the stale beefiness. So I would maybe effort this once more but I would utilise the dried beef and maybe a tablespoon more than of butter.
02/07/2008
I had left over corned beef from a brisket I had made and used this instead of the jar beef. I used the nutrient processor and chopped it all upwards. I made a double batch for 2 teenage boys. I warmed the milk in the microwave beginning for 5 mins that way it doesn't scald and makes it faster to make. I besides warmed the meat in the microwave for 2 mins. I besides added a pinch of garlic salt because information technology was likewise banal for my taste. While the milk was in the microwave I made the butter flour mixture, and when the meat was in the microwave I did the toast and and so put the meat in the sauce and it was washed in 10 minutes. Very easy and fast and the kids ate information technology all!!!
01/16/2012
Delicious! I haven't made this in ages and it hit the spot this night.I used i/2 stick butter and approx i/2 cup of flour..exist certain and cook that a minute or two to get rid of the flour taste. I and then added the milk, slowly stirring and concluding added 2 pkgs of chipped beef that I sliced in ane/4 inch slices. E'er a family favorite.
03/08/2008
This recipe is entirely too salty as written. I had to throw it away. Nosotros couldn't eat it. Practice non use dried beefiness in a jar. Maybe bundle from cold cut department would be ok.
10/02/2011
This was good, I added pepper to gustatory modality.
11/14/2010
Nosotros all enjoyed this chipped beef for dinner (myself, my husband, my v year onetime son and iv twelvemonth sometime daughter). I rinsed the beef, but I recollect that I must accept "over" rinsed information technology. I rinsed every single slice while running the rest of the beefiness under h2o in a collander. The outcome was that information technology actually ended up needing salt, IMO. This is my own fault of course. :due north) the cream was cracking, and next time I'll be less meticulous with my rinsing. Non sure if I adopt this over Stouffers, since Stouffers is patently easier to brand, which is why it got 4 instead of 5.
01/fifteen/2008
Doubled the recipe and just used 2-4 oz. jars and it was fine. I rinsed only one jar and was just right for salt. Family loved information technology.
02/07/2012
My mother used to make this when I was a kid for us all the time since we didn't have very much money. Information technology'southward my absolute favorite. it'southward elementary, easy, and brings dorsum memories. information technology's non a flavorful dish if you lot're looking for something fancy and awakening, but if you lot have the same reasoning as i do, it's just a condolement food. And to brand it better, my mom always put chopped difficult-boiled eggs in hers. YUM! :)
11/09/2007
I have made this recipe a couple of times and each time it has been Groovy! I like to add some frozen corn to mine. It is indeed wonderful comfort food. It is incredibly cheap, quick and easy. I would propose buying stale beef for this and not using the luncheon meat as someone suggested. I tried it the first time that I made it to relieve money, but was disappointed past the sense of taste. No need to common salt a 2nd time when using the dried beef right from the jar.
09/04/2013
I increased the sauce every bit some others did and this turned out perfect! I've fabricated this before several times, but never with the cayenne and information technology made a wonderful difference. I also like to put some scramble eggs on superlative of mine too...just some other fiddling touch that makes it better.
02/xv/2011
Yup, only like Mom's!
01/05/2014
I grew up eating this, I love it! I didn't see information technology on this recipe, but I've e'er had sliced hard boiled eggs in mine as well mixed in with the "gravy" and dried beef. It's excellent!!
03/09/2009
It reminded me of the frozen Stauffer's, what I grew up with. I doubled the recipe for 4 people. I used jar beef and drained it twice. Since I drained the beef information technology needed a little table salt. I didn't put in the cayenne pepper. I put in blackness pepper instead. I serve it on toast.
01/05/2011
so adept! Comfort food on a cold day.
02/10/2013
You need to double the recipe. The portion of roux to chipped beef is sparse. It only makes enough for ii people or cover four pieces of toast and the chipped beef is actually salty even though I rinsed the bit beefiness in hot water and let it eddy in the roux. Next time I'll double the recipe and boil the chipped beef in h2o before adding to the roux.
04/15/2011
I have been making chipped beefiness on toast for years. I outset out with olive oil instead of butter. More healthy. Add together flour slowly to oil, lower heat and stir until it gets slightly brown. Add milk and several drops of Wright's concentrated Hickory Seasoning (liquid smoke). salt & pepper to gustatory modality. In the Navy they call it (SOS- on a shingle)
01/08/2003
This is my girl's all-fourth dimension favorite breakfast. She eats it one time a week. I use the Buddig brand Corned Beef and poultry seasoning instead of cayenne. Over Xmas break used leftover cubed ham instead and foam instead of milk, just every bit adept, if not better.

The husband could not become enough of this yummy comfort food. I used Carl Buding beef and doubled the sauce. The cayenne pepper gave it a little oestrus which was dainty, add more if you lot like the spice. Served with veggies on the side. Will be making this ane once again and again.

I tripled the sauce and used half a pd of stale beefiness chipped from the deli. We eat this when we become out for breakfast. You can put it over scrabbled eggs, fried taters, or the most popular is toast. I liked this better than what we get out, and everyone in the house liked it. Thank you for the recipe.

But like the kind mom used to brand. I used a package of budding beefiness and chopped it upwards. I had to double the recipe for my family of 4 though.

We are beef farmers and dried beef is in the freezer. This is just about the only way nosotros similar dried beefiness. I was looking hither for more than ideas of what to brand with it and institute that I had already tried them all: chicken bake, creamed beef, and overnight casserole. Our favorite style of eating creamed beef is either over fried hash browns or waffles. I e'er seasoned this with a little scrap of nutmeg and beef goop and seasoning powder, just tonight I will try the pepper.

Skillful stuff, like what mom made merely w/ an added kick. I use the beef in the plastic bag, and that works fine. I like how salty this recipe is. But, I'm an admitted saltaholic. :)

This is an old stand-by recipe that I have prepared for my family for years. I employ 2 packages the Buddig beef, double the cream sauce and add just a dash of both onion powder and garlic powder, along with common salt and pepper to taste before I chop and add together the beef and serve over toast. With these changes, I'd give this recipe five stars. A quick and easy meal!

Had a deep want for creamed chipped beef tonight. Existence just after mid-March I besides had some leftover corned beefiness. Used it in this basic roux recipe and information technology is wonderful. Thanks Lisa for posting. Too my begetter taught me how to cook very rich then I used 1/3 heavy whipping cream to 2/iii+- pure water as my liquid in making my roux. Much creamier taste and texture= richer flavor.

I've been making this dish for years, I start slicing the dried beef, them plunging it briefly into boiling water to remove some of the salt, then saute it in butter, add cornstarch then milk till ti thickens to desired consistency. flavor w/a bit of white pepper... that's the authentic fashion to go far!
